I-Rock Nightclub

What could be sexier than sharing a Sunday premier with a horror movie about killer zombies infected by radioactive weed? Nothing, that’s right – you heard me.

Motor D Films was in ill-effect alongside Silver Bullet Pictures as the big screen hosted Detroit Blood City, directed by Mike Hartman at the I-Rock on Harper in Detroit. Motor D represented itself as well, showing Interview With The Vampire; The Count Chocula Story as the opening film. Co-Founder Frank Levanduski was on hand to hawk our schwag and scare children – final score: Schwag 7, Children 33.

The I-Rock has proudly hosted musical acts such as Foghat, The Dead Kennedy’s, Tesla and Quiet Riot and is widely renowned as a club with a front door and a ceiling. In all seriousness, a cool venue hosted cool indies and a good time was had by all, except this one squirrely guy with a trenchcoat and a twitch who was escorted to the nearest exit with the quickness.

Motor D congratulates the entire cast and crew of Detroit Blood City, especially the kick-ass hired gun editor (said editor may or may not be Frank Levanduski).

Dark Xmas 05

Monday, November 14th, 2005

There is a world where minor celebrity meets major obsession in a dark, damp hallway en route to a video store. In this world, Pop Icons flitter and fade in the shadows cast by midgets, trekkies and adult entertainers of a video nature. It is a magical world known as the sci-fi and horror movie scene.

Motor D Films made its’ first convention appearance at Dark Xmas ’05 – the best of the Midwest winter conventions. After spending two days and two nights at the historic Comfort Inn of Warren, Ohio (don’t fucking laugh the building is seriously like 180 years old) we have seen the mountain top my friends, and it is bright with the hot, hot burn of fifteen minutes of fame fizzling comfortably amidst a scourge of die-hard fans and ex-porn stars who will do damn near anything for a job. We joke, we joke – Dark Xmas ’05 featured killer guests like Sid Haig from House of 1,000 Corpses, special effects legend Tom Savini and several cast members of the original Dawn of the Dead including Nick Tallo.

Saturday night there was a grade A drinkathon in the basement bar featuring celebrity Karaoke and a handful of fetish action – hand to god, these freaks can party.

The crowd was live and Motor D didn’t disappoint. DVD’s, Stickers, T-Shirts and even logo emblazoned panties graced our short-term retail space. There was indeed something for everyone @ Dark Xmas ’05 – even Killer Nerd star Toby Radliff, also known from his appearance in American Splendor.

Did I mention there were midgets and porn stars? Yes, and yes. Daniel Frischman of Star Wars and Night Court fame signed autographs along with several other Ewok Stars and the whole dang place was ripe with professional trim who have shed their wicked ways in search of work in the burgeoning independent film market.

We can’t wait for next year, and after reading this we know you can’t either. You can learn more by checking out the Dark Xmas website.
